Obstacle: finding a product for my research paper

Success: Coming up with the idea that I should mentor a child in the ESL

Obstacle: Finding a mentor 

Success: Dr. Rebecca Wilson agreed to be my mentor 

First day in the office.

Obstacle: Getting acquainted with the office Staff and establishing a routine 

Success: After the first week, they signed me out themselves and had everything ready to go very morning.

Success: It was the last one on the Block! :)

Success: David understood and posed no objection in meeting me

Success: The library was able with a study room

Obstacle: Asking for permission to the library and figuring out how the library worked

Success: Everything was explained and me and David were ready to go!

The first time meeting David, We read a book.

Obstacle: How to connect and gain a first grader's trust

Success: After letting him choose the books we read and finding out more about him, he seem to really like the idea of me teaching him.

Obstacle: Figuring out David's weaknesses and strengths 

Success: After discussion with Mrs. Wall I had a clear idea of what my plan was for David.

Obstacle: Numbers were one of David's weaknesses and he did not know them

Success: After trying various methods, repetition seemed to work along with a visual aid, and David learned his numbers in written form also.

Obstacle: How to get David to be able to match a letter with a sound

Success: To cut time and for learning efficiency, we would read a word, spell it out, sound it out, and if he still didn't know it after a couple of times, he would write it out.  By the end of 5 to 10 minutes David knew the whole book.

Obstacle: Did David show improvement? 

Success: YES!

Dr. Wilson helped me tremendously in my project. She helped me come up with the idea of my product, a plan to follow and how to go about interacting with a first grader, as well as choosing the right place to mentor him. :)
